TOURISM: LATTARINO FESTIVAL IN CASTEL GANDOLFO
25 giugno, 13:24An old feudal tradition revolves around the "lattarino", a small fish that lives in Lake Albano and that modern times have failed to eliminate. Its roots pervade the history of ancient Rome, where the fish would be used to prepare the "garum" sauce that flavoured an array of dishes. It is said that the emperor Domitian, as he rocked in a small boat on the lake, would feast upon the fish, washing them down with plenty of local wine.
In more recent times, Giuseppe Gioachino Belli even dedicated a sonnet in the "Viaggiatore" to the lattarino, in which he compared it to the sea anchovy.
The Festival begins on Friday June 18 at 16:00 at Lake Albano where food stands will be set up. Saturday 19 June will see the inauguration of the market and a concert in the evening by Paolo Gatti. The Festival will draw to en end on Sunday with a parade of flag-wavers and a concert dedicated to Rino Gaetano.(ANSA).
