(ANSA) - ROMA, 25 GIU - An exhibition with masterpieces of
the Library of Archaeology and Art History that have not been
put on display for more than 55 years: the exposition 'The
wonders of ancient and modern Rome' will be hosted by Palazzo
Venezia until July 31. The event has been organised on the
occasion of the XXII International Advisory Committee of Keepers
of Public Collections of Graphic Art.
The precious manuscript that contains the relief of the
Colonna Traiana, the unpublished drawings of the Dutch Lievin
Cruyl, including a marvelous sketch of Piazza del Popolo as it
was in 1664, a drawing of Ponte Milvio by the young Piranesi,
made just after his arrival in the eternal city. These are some
of the works that tell the story of the capital over a period of
3 centuries, between monuments, fountains and unusual and
classic views.
Nearly all these works are part of the Lanciani del Biasa
collection. The collection that carries the name of the famous
archaeologist includes documents from the start of the sixteenth
century to the twentieth century, and a series of views on Rome
in its many aspects, made by foreign artists. These views show
the attraction the eternal city has always had on French,
English and German painters. The collection also includes
architectonic projects for squares, buildings, churches and
museums between 1700 and 1800, linked to the lively urban
development supported by the popes Clemente XII Corsini,
Benedetto XIV Lambertini, Pio VII Chiaramonti, Pio IX Mastai
Ferretti.(ANSA).
