TOURISM: 3 DAYS OF 'INFIORATA' IN POGGIO MOIANO
25 giugno, 13:25 (ANSA) - ROMA, 25 GIU - Poggio Moiano, in the province of
Rieti, will celebrate the 'Infiorata' between June 25 and 27
with carpets of flowers, more than 300 metres long, in its
historic centre.
The event started as an ancient religious ritual to honour
the Lord by throwing flower petals during processions. Over the
years it has taken on a more artistic character: the petals are
no longer thrown but are used by more than 500 artists to make
colourful drawings on the ground.
Flowers are picked and dried in a dark environment (so that they don't lose their colour), and then made into a powder. This year, the 40th year of the event, the novelties include an alphabet of flowers (six panels that carry a series of flowers and a short description for each letter), shows and films, all dedicated to flowers. There will also be the traditional garlic bread festival, where people can taste Sabina olive oil with Protected Designation of Origin and 'Pasta alla Sabinese', as well as other typical products.(ANSA).
