(ANSA) - ROMA, 25 GIU - A festival dedicated to
anise-flavoured 'ciambelle', a typical local sweet, will be held
on June 27 in Stimigliano in the province of Rieti.
The festival, which is in its 30th edition, started when in
the 1930s, the church of San Giovanni Bosco was built in
Stimigliano Scalo, which was realised by transforming and
adapting a local warehouse owned by Ceramica Sbordoni. The
saint's feast day is on January 31, but, according to tradition,
it is celebrated on the last Sunday in June in order for it to
coincide in the past with the festival given by the big
landowners to thank the people who farmed their land.
Shots will be fired and bells will ring to start the festival.
The 'ciambelle' will be passed out at 7:00AM. Processions
through the streets with the statue of San Giovanni Bosco will
follow, while in the evening there will be musical performances,
dance and a lottery extraction for charity.(ANSA).
